surrounding region of the Granada province.

The town offers good amenities, cultural attractions and a wonderful atmosphere. The other smaller villages of the Baza municipality include Benamaurel, Caniles, Cortes de Baza, Cuevas de Campo, Cullar, Freila and Zujar.

History
Baza and the local region date back to the Phoenicians, and have been occupied through the centuries by the Greeks, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Romans and of course the Moors.

Cultural attractions
Baza has been declared a National Historic Interest for its historical monuments, including the Muslim Medina and its ancient fortress, Alcazabar.

There are many cultural more attractions including the Arab Baths, the old quarter with its Moorish street titles and the civil and military architecture that adorns the town.

The historic sculpture, La Dama de Baza, was excavated from an Iberian necropolis, just outside of Baza. The work dates back to 400BC and is not only historically important, but it is an amazingly beautiful piece of work and in good condition.

The Municipal Museum of Baza has some fantastic exhibits of archaeological interest, with artefacts from Iberia, Medieval, Roman and Prehistoric eras.

Natural surroundings
Mountain ranges, arid plains and verdant fertile valleys make up the surrounding landscape of the Sierra de Baza.

Within the landscape there are cave dwellings, inhabited for centuries, they are now becoming popular for eco and rural tourism.

Baza Festivals
Februrary’s festival in Baza is not one to miss, and is gaining in popularity, with visitors come from all over Andalusia to enjoy the festivities.

Climate
Baza enjoys long, hot summers, and pleasant sprint and autumn months. Winter can be cold, but tends to be dry, with infrequent rainy day, and snow and ice at intervals throughout the winter months.
